Yoga nidra is a process of slowing down and relaxing. Just like meditation. While some people tend to think they are the same but reality is they are two different practices. Nidra or sleep is one of the primary sources of our energy. Sleep regenerates our whole body and energizes our brain. Yoga nidra is a mixture of sleep and meditation with additional strength to uplift our system.
Yoga nidra is a process of lying down and falling asleep- but it is a deep state of conscious awareness sleep, it is different from ordinary sleep, it is deeper, a relaxation with awareness.
Meditation is a sitting position and you are awake while focusing the mind and letting thoughts come and go. Proper meditation allows us to get to the theta state, a state needed in order to go to the delta state, and this delta is the place of the deepest sleep cycle. The delta state is a deep healing state.
