Definitely no, you can do yoga without having to worry about your physical flexibility for you are not going to push yourself hard and beyond your limits, your flexibility will come as time goes by just make sure to be consistent with your yoga practice. Is injury really common in doing yoga? Yoga-related injuries are unusual. Some injuries can be caused by repetitive strain or overstretching and pushing yourself beyond your limits. It’s actually similar to exercising; it’s perfectly safe if being taught by professionals who already understood the proper way of performing it. It’s sensible to learn from a practiced yoga teacher and choose a class suitable to your level.
What kind of class should I decide on going? There are many different forms of yoga, such as Ashtanga, Iyengar and Sivananda. Some poses are more dynamic than others that require a more flexible body, while some may have a different area of emphasis, such as posture or breathing. Even so, no form is essentially better or more real than any other. These means that decide on a yoga class level base on your fitness level.
Is it okay to start doing yoga with just a book or videos available online? It’s actually okay but it would be wiser to have your own practitioner to guide you especially for beginners in order to know the capacity of your body and to avoid any injuries from performing. You can learn poses together with your breathing techniques right away if you properly performed such yoga style. It would also be more enjoyable to be with someone practicing with you.
